However......... We do things quite a bit differently here!!
The biggest complaint we hear from customers is...... I took my guitar to XYZ Guitar Repairs for a setup and he had it for 4 weeks and i then had to chase him to get it back. Thats just awful customer service.

So, at Cottam Guitars, we don't do queues and big wait times. Turnaround is usually within a day or so, or we can do a "while you wait" service.
Its a really simple concept. We just dont allow work to back up. When a guitar comes in, it gets done, and goes back out, and if that means putting in a few late nights, then so be it.

Guitar set-up and repairs made easy


At Cottam Guitar Repairs & Sales, we offer a full guitar repair service covering guitars, acoustics, basses, banjos, etc. 

We have a fully kitted out workshop brimming with specialist tooling to do each job properly.

Our repair/setup charges are based on the time spent and represent an hourly charge. Each job is obviously different, but we will always make sure each job gives our customer value for money, and we remain very competetive on price.

A regularly heard complaint from customers is that other repairers/shops charge a flat £50 for a set-up.

We charge based on the time it has taken to sort out your guitar, so your setup may cost £30, or it may be £70 or more, and we firmly believe this is the fairest way. But before starting we can give you a quote or a ballpark figure.

What we do strive to achieve, is we want you to feel you have been looked after and go away happy that the work was 
1) needed.
2) value for money.
3) carried out to a high standard.
Many customers say that they wish they had spent that little bit of money much sooner so they could fully enjoy their instrument.

Whether you are local and have a gig tonight or in the next few days and need a job done quickly, or you are coming from some distance to visit us and want to avoid doing two trips (dropping-off and picking-up), whatever it is............. we're always more than happy to do a while you wait service.

If it's a small job, wait here and watch.
If it's a bit more of a job, drop it off, go and do a bit of shopping or have lunch etc, and then collect it later on.

We have done plenty of guitar work for customers by post/courier.


Email or call to discuss what you want, then send your guitar to us, then we'll give you a call to discuss the plan of action once we have had a good look at it and agreed what you want doing and a price. Then just arrange a courier collection to have it returned.


Our furthest away customer was Cata from Romania who couldnt find anyone nearer to install a Lo Pro Edge7 trem and some custom colour Dimarzio's to his Ibanez(see picture). He was VERY happy with the job.
